Research
Four projects, one molecular question.
Each of these projects took a different toolkit — lipids, isotopes, high-resolution mass spectrometry — into a different environment. Together they sketch out what marine molecular biogeochemistry can do.
Field & lab · Black Sea Paleobiogeochemistry
Archaeal GDGTs in a stratified, anoxic basin
Reading archaeal membrane lipids from a stratified anoxic basin to reconstruct past ocean surface-water temperature.
Open project
Lab · Helgoland Mud Area
13C-acetate incubations in coastal sediments
Following 13C from acetate into microbial lipids in North Sea muds, to identify which organisms turn over small carbon substrates.
Open project
Field & imaging · Mallorca
Microbial mats & MALDI-FT-ICR-MS imaging
Layered hypersaline mats imaged at ultra-high mass resolution — and what they suggest about life in Mars-analogue habitats.
Open project
M.Sc. thesis · Bochum
Applied geology & hydrogeology
First master's thesis at Ruhr-Universität Bochum: water–rock chemistry, fluid pathways, and the geochemical groundwork that informs my current modelling.
Open project
M.Sc. thesis · MARUM & MPI Bremen & BIOM
Marine geosciences at MARUM
Instant visualization of organic-matter transformation in the ocean — alginate-particle model systems and marine Vibrio bacteria, with interactive figures and the live thesis story.
